NMCAN’S Policy Blueprint was created in partnership with young people who spent time in the foster care system and either aged out of that system or were preparing to age out. Authentic engagement of young people was the foundation from which this document was created, and we supported young people in an extensive planning process to identify the areas of greatest priority.
On Thursday, November 30th, 70 members of the NMCAN community joined us at the Breakfast with Youth Leaders for the public release of the policy blueprint and to learn about our policy priorities for improving the foster care and/or juvenile justice systems, which include:
- Normalizing the foster care experience
- Better preparing young people for the transition to adulthood by offering access to opportunities for success
- Encouraging permanence
- Promoting high quality advocacy for all young people
