2019 Legislative Priorities Announced

2019 Legislative Priorities Announced

On October 30, NMCAN hosted the Breakfast with Youth Leaders to announce our priorities for the 2019 Legislative Session. Nearly 100 community members joined us to learn how extending foster care beyond 18 will improve young people’s transition to adulthood. Jim Casey Youth Fellow Gernani Yutob, Jr. spoke about his role in supporting these efforts in Hawaii and Rhode Island. Youth Leader Margaret Villegas spoke about how she and her peers are preparing to educate legislators and the public about extending care in New Mexico. Finally, David Hicks of Rio Grande Credit Union spoke about how RGCU is working to ensure youth under 18 have the opportunity to manage their money via access to individual bank accounts.
