Doing grown-up things and taking care of responsibilities like education, work, and money can be tough. NMCAN projects make sure you have the knowledge and skills to get them done.

Get Your Education

Back on Track allows you to thrive in a learning environment on your own terms.

  • How it works: together, you and our staff identify your strengths, academic readiness, and any barriers to staying in school, such as finding housing or a job. From there, we help you create an individualized education plan with action steps to get you back on track and find educational and employment success!
  • You can participate if you:
    • Are between the ages of 17 and 25
    • Currently are disconnected from education
    • Live in the greater Albuquerque area (including Rio Rancho, Los Lunas, and Belen)
  • Youth who have experienced foster care, the juvenile justice system, and/or homelessness are encouraged to apply.
  • Back on Track is in partnership with New Day Youth & Families and Bernalillo County’s Juvenile Detention Alternatives Initiative and based on a model by Jobs for the Future.

Learn About Money

Opportunity Passport™ helps you become financially capable, gain experience with banks, and obtain assets for education, housing, transportation, or other requirements for a successful transition to adulthood.

  • How it works: you participate in super fun (we promise) financial literacy classes that help you learn about setting financial goals, creating a budget that works for you, building credit, and making your dollars count. After the first three classes, you receive $100 to help you save towards the purchase of an asset—a car perhaps? We support you every step of the way and match you dollar for dollar (up to $3,000) toward your purchase.
  • You can participate if you:
    • Are between the ages of 14 and 25
    • Live in the greater Albuquerque area (including Rio Rancho, Los Lunas, and Belen)
    • Experienced one day in foster care after your 14th birthday
